Seeing Differently, Deciding Wisely

This session, “Seeing Differently, Deciding Wisely,” builds on that theme by exploring what happens when we consciously adjust those lenses.

Why do capable professionals interpret the same situation in completely different ways? Why does AI appear as a threat to some and an opportunity to others? Why do teams struggle with silos, customer dissatisfaction, or missed goals despite shared intentions?

Often, the difference lies not in the facts, but in how we see them.

In this interactive session, we will explore how our mental models act like lenses. They focus our attention, filter information, magnify certain signals, and sometimes distort what we perceive. Through relatable business and career scenarios, including AI adoption, organizational challenges, and professional growth situations, participants will engage in guided breakout discussions to examine problems from multiple angles.

Rather than rushing to solutions, we will practice expanding interpretations, questioning first assumptions, and identifying the patterns that influence our decisions. The goal is not to memorize theories, but to strengthen the quality of our thinking in complex environments.

By the end of the session, participants will gain:

  • Greater awareness of the “first story” they tell themselves
  • A practical pause to examine assumptions before reacting
  • Insight into how incentives, systems, and time horizons shape outcomes
  • A deeper understanding of how the lens we use influences the decisions we make
