Agile Development Maturity Assessment and Building High Performance Teams

“Building self governed and high performing teams has been the cornerstone of building impactful software at Thoughtworks. In this talk, Kala and Jem will share their experience of running a series of workshops on building high performing teams.

We leverage James Shore’s Agility Assessment model to measure the maturity of teams across the dimensions of Thinking, Collaborating, Releasing, Planning and Developing. The model proposes a questionnaire based self assessment to arrive at a maturity score for teams. The maturity score is determined to evaluate the ability of the team to operate across the spectrum of software development activities in a self governed manner.

The agility assessment is followed by a series of activities aimed at building high performance teams. These cover aspects of leadership expectations, aligning on roles and responsibilities, team culture building and continuous improvement through feedback. Our experience of helping build teams using the model, helps us to share some insights on how the whole workshop can be leveraged better and challenges can be overcome. ”
