Trust! That’s essentially the needle that drives choices. I started my corporate engineering journey in 2008 and there were times I was stuck with complex work. My go to companion at the time was Stack Overflow. And at times (most times) use a default solution someone provides to move quickly and deliver for the client.
Eventually knowledge and growth became more important than quick and dirty solutions. Well, not all solutions were dirty however it was hard to tell without the knowledge. Fast forward 2022, our trust needle moved again, only this time it shifted from humans on Stack Overflow to machines and AI.
The mindset however didn’t change, neither mine nor the client’s. Where clients sought speed, I sought efficiency. And ultimately found balance that seems sound. Here’s the story and methods of Engineering Excellence in the era of AI.
Key Takeaways
1. AI and its effects on engineering principles
2. Evaluating AI and outcomes to be expected
3. Setting expectations with stakeholders
4. Management and client buy-in
5. Speed vs Efficiency
